NCLEX Exam Success

Barry University's School of Nursing continues to achieve high rates of success on the NCLEX-RN examination. Ninety-four (94%) of nursing students who graduated from Barry University's School of Nursing in May 2006 were successful on the NCLEX-RN exam. The School of Nursing is elated that their graduates maintained outstanding performance on this test and is proud of the contribution they are making to the nursing profession.

Loan Forgiveness

The Nursing Student Loan Forgiveness Program was established to encourage LPN and RN professionals to obtain jobs in areas of the state of Florida where critical nursing shortages exist. The program provides funds to assist in the repayment of nursing education loans. A licensed practical nurse (LPN) or a registered nurse (RN) can have up to $4,000 a year for a maximum of 4 years in repayment of nursing educational loans. A nurse is eligible for this program if she holds an LPN, RN, or ARNP license in the State of Florida, has loans incurred toward a nursing education, and works full-time at one of the designated nursing shortage sites.

Continuing Education

It is mandated by the Florida Board of Nursing that all registered nurses and licensed practical nurses must complete continuing education credits in order to remain licensed. Both registered and licensed practical nurses (LPN) need to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years. All registered nurses (RN) and licensed practical nurses (LPN) working in Florida are subject to audit, in which case they must submit copies of certificates of continuing education to the Florida Board of Nursing.

Nurse Anesthetist

The School of Nursing of the University of Miami is committed to provide a superior education as well as employment opportunities for students accepted into the nurse anesthetist program. The university has created the Nurse Anesthetist Scholars Program which gives students full in-state tuition, and covers the cost of books and other fees. All registered nurses (RN) who hold a bachelor’s degree and are accepted into this program receive the scholarship. Graduates of this nursing program must commit to three years of full time employment at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine hospitals or clinics.

License Endorsement

The state of Florida requires all health care workers to be licensed in order to practice. A registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) licensed in a state other than Florida, must apply for licensure by endorsement prior to obtain nursing employment in Florida.
