Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Courses in Florida
Are you looking for a nurse aide program which will give you the skills and knowledge needed for employment in less than six months? The Gulf Coast Community College currently accepts applications for their five-month Certified Nursing Assistant program. This short program, consisting of only two courses, is being offered only at the Gulf-Franklin Center, in Port St. Joe, Florida.
The nurse aide program is being offered twice a year and students can attend either part-time or full-time. Once you have successfully completed the program courses you will be able to take the Florida state exam for nursing assistant certification. In order to start the admission process you must complete a general college admission form, provide a high-school transcript or equivalent, and complete the test for Adult Basic Education. Due to limited space into the certified nurse aide program prospective students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The CNA program begins in August and January and nurse aide students must maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout the length of the program.

Indian River Community College offers a nursing assistant course to students who are at least 18 years old. The program length is approximately seven weeks and students are required to attend classes for about 20 hours each week. Interested candidates should start by meeting with an academic advisor and completing an admission form. Each month there is a nursing information session being offered on campus and all students interested in becoming a nurse aide are encouraged to attend. To be admitted into the nursing assistant program you must show proficiency in math, reading, and language skills, all of which will be tested through the Test of Adult Basic Education exam. Only a sixth grade level proficiency is required in all categories in order to be admitted into the nurse aide course.
The last step of the admission process involves having a satisfactory physical examination, a complete set of required immunizations, a drug screening, and a background check. The total cost for the nursing assistant program is estimated to be $1,010 which includes tuition, fees, equipment, uniforms, and books, as well as the fee for the Nurse Assistant Certificate. It is important to know that any nurse aide which is employed by a nursing home within one year of completing a nurse aide certification program is entitled to reimbursement for training and testing costs. As outlined by federal law and Florida facility handbook guidelines, the nursing home employer must cover these costs. Those who have any questions or need help with reimbursement issues should contact the District Medicaid Office.
